Travel & Tips

for out-of-towners

Getting Here

  • Queenstown Airport (ZQN) — direct flights from Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, and several Australian cities
  • Most international guests connect via Auckland (AKL)
  • Airport is just 15 mins from Ayrburn and the venues
  • Rental cars, taxis, Uber and shuttles all available at the airport

Getting Around

  • A rental car is the easiest way to explore the area
  • Drive on the left side of the road in NZ
  • Uber and local taxis run in Queenstown town centre
  • Parking is available at all wedding venues

Where to Stay

  • Queenstown town centre — close to bars, lakefront, and dining
  • Kelvin Heights / Frankton — quieter, near WellSpace and the airport
  • Arrowtown — historic gold-rush village, near Ayrburn
  • We recommend booking early — December is peak summer season

What to Pack

  • December is summer in NZ — warm days, cool evenings
  • Layers: t-shirts and light jumpers, plus a warm jacket for late nights
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat (UV is strong)
  • Comfortable walking shoes for exploring
  • Don't forget your Burning Man fit for Saturday night

Good to Know

  • Currency: New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
  • Power: Type I plug, 230V — bring an adapter
  • Tipping is not customary in NZ
  • Tap water is safe and delicious to drink
  • SIM cards / eSIMs available at the airport (Spark, One NZ, 2degrees)

While You're Here

  • Lake Wakatipu — swim, kayak or take the TSS Earnslaw steamship
  • Skyline Gondola for views over Queenstown
  • Glenorchy & Paradise — the most scenic 45-min drive of your life
  • Wineries in Gibbston Valley and Bannockburn
  • Milford Sound — worth the day trip if you have time
